A Music Education Mixtape V6

With the summer here and a ton of links I have bookmarked to write about over the past few months it’s time for another music education mixtape……

Track 1 – Not all of our top percussionists will end up as principal percussionists in symphony orchestras, and even those that do might end up leaving to start their own rock bands. Have you spoken to your students about Ted Atkatz?

Track 2 – A professional harpist gives her perspective on music education.

Track 3 – While we often discuss the benefits of music and positive roles it plays in our lives, it is interesting to read the Society of Ethnomusicology’s position statement on torture in reference to music and Suzanne Cusick’s article “Music as torture Music as Weapon” .

Track 4 – An interesting perspective and dialogue on audition feedback on Roger Bourland’s blog.

Track 5 – A challenge on Dial “M” for Musicology to write about a random playlist on your ipod could lead to some interesting results in a music classroom.

Track 6 – What happens when a musician is interested in Iraqi music and jazz?
